It's been a while since I've done one of these, but I'm going to try to get back into it. Unfortunately, the need to make actually money has interfered with my little hobby. But Southern Avenue is the kind of band that can bring me back. The mission here is to bring to Baby Boomers — and anyone else stuck in their musical past — good, new music, and this is it. Southern Avenue is led by Isreali-born guitarist Ori Naftaly who moved to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge. His band reached the semifinal but eventually broke up. Back in Memphis Naftaly met singer Tierinii Jackson and her drumming sister Tikyra. The combination clicked and the resulting band puts out a mix of Blues, Soul and R&B that will reinspire you. Check out the latest album, Keep On.

KEEP ON (2019): Named after the street that led to Soulsville, USA, Memphis-bred rock and blues outfit Southern Avenue burst onto the scene with their acclaimed debut in 2017. The boundary-breaking combo sparked a one-band musical revolution, embodying an effortlessly organic blues/soul/R&B fusion that reflects the band's international roots. On their latest album, Keep On, the band does exactly that, never letting up with a churning blend of horns, gospel-tinged harmonies, and a rhythm section that would make any southern soul icon proud. It’s a return of the Memphis sound – a gritty, funky mojo – ringing once again down Southern Avenue.
